Title: Sr Data & Performance Capacity Engineer - Schaumburg, IL or Knoxville, TN
Location: Illinois-Schaumburg
Plan, design, engineer, develop, implement, monitor, and analyze performance and capacity processes and methodologies of customer-facing systems and services. Provide subject matter expertise around performance and capacity engineering. Provide project management for capacity related project initiatives. Act as liaison with applications development and tools teams for performance engineers. Evaluate and implement new technologies, policies, and procedures for business network operations. Present performance and capacity engineering analysis, reports, and recommendations to performance engineers, performance managers, engineering managers, and executive management.

* Support
* Analyze and recommend performance and capacity upgrades needed for customer-facing data systems and services.
* Leads customer-facing performance and capacity strategy review meetings, presentations, and training sessions.
* Analyzes network & system response and determines tuning recommendations to improve performance.
* Interfaces with the vendors' senior technical staff/management on critical/escalated capacity issues.
* Manages issue identification and resolution process, including escalations to senior management; serves as the Senior focal point for performance and capacity-related issues.
* Aligns current performance and capacity engineering and processes with industry best practices, monitors variances
* Engineering
* Leads project management for customer-facing performance and capacity related projects.
* Implements performance and capacity reporting and methodology changes related to new systems and services
* Lead interaction with partner organizations/departments
* Tools
* Work with performance engineers to define requirements and make recommendations for ways to improve performance. Develop business cases that support changes to network and system infrastructure.
* Defines analysis applications requirements and works with tools team to integrate into existing infrastructure.
* Ensure communication of process and procedure changes to key stakeholders.
* Develop and maintain capacity standards, policies and procedures documentation.
* Support identification and collection of metrics and performance reporting processes
* Identify process improvement areas and develop the improvement initiatives.
* Determines capacity Key Performance Indicators for critical services
* Skills
* Research current industry technology to better facilitate vendor and partner communications
* Subject Matter Expert (SME) for relevant technologies
* Requires minimal supervision to perform job duties.
* Actively mentors other engineering staff
* Develop and deliver cross-training activities
* Participates in, and encourages a knowledge-sharing environment both within, and outside the department
* Develop and Maintain knowledge infrastructure, operations, and devices
* Business Partnership
* Maintain relationships with the customers, associates, and vendors to proactively identify needed changes.
* Establish working relationships with technical and business counterparts.
* Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives.
* Assembles cross-functional workgroups of key stakeholders
* Actively participates in industry/vendor forums to guide performance and capacity activities.
* People Management
* Manage individual workload and deliver to agreed-upon milestones.
* Proactively promote consistent project-based performance measurement and skill development of junior staff.
* Demonstrate ability to work in team environment and help resolve issues.
* Provide input to staffing plans at the project-level to identify key / required skills.
* Technical Skills:
* Systems: Routers (Cisco, ALU, Nortel), PDSN/HA, Firewalls, Load Balancers, MMS, SMS, LSNAT, EVDO, LTE
* Tools: NetScout, Netcool, MRTG, Infovista, Wireshark, Solar Winds
* Other: IP address management/subnetting, statistical analysis, advanced Excel and PowerPoint, Visio, and MS Project

* Minimum 5 to 8 years relevant work experience
* Bachelor's degree in related technical / business area is preferred
* Excellent understanding of Routing/Switching and WAN technologies (Cisco or ALU)
* Experience with Performance and Capacity Planning.
* Understanding of the relevant technologies
* Understanding of the business and industry
* Experience re-engineering / process improvement
* Strong change management skills; change agent.
* Strong project management experience running cross-functional teams.
* Excellent problem solving / analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent presentation skills demonstrated in front of large audiences.
* Ability to create / define / analyze metrics that accurately reflect the current state of a given process or operation
* Certification(s) in relevant field of expertise is preferred.
* Experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure in a fast-paced environment
* Travel around 20%
